11th Season Begins Oct 27!

Welcome to our 11th season! Vashon Chamber Music is excited to return to the Kay White Hall with a presentation of Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire. The iconic German expressionist masterpiece will close out the program entitled “A Classical Cabaret”. The concert will open with Paul Schoenfeld’s jazzy romp for piano trio entitled “Cafe Music”, followed by baritone Hugh Davis with a set of contemporary cabaret songs. The concert takes place at Vashon Center for the Arts on Oct 27 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online at vashoncenterforthearts.org or by phone at (206)463-5131.

An Evening in Hungary

The tenth anniversary season comes to a close with an evening of Hungarian music presented by the Girsky Quartet. Opening with Haydn’s “Apponyi” Quartet, the Girskys continue with the scintillating Bartok Third Quartet. After intermission, Vashon star soprano Holly Boaz sings five folksongs arranged by Bartok and then the Girskys finish off the evening with Kodaly’s 2nd quartet. The concert is Monday April 22nd, 7:30pm at the Vashon Methodist Church. Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.org or cash/check at the door. Ticket prices are $25/$20/$10.

12th Night Musicale

Join us for a benefit musicale on the twelfth night of Christmas (January 6th, 7pm).
We will celebrate Clara Schumann’s 200th birth anniversary and VCM/s 10th anniversary season with a program featuring music of Robert and Clara Schumann and their protege, Johannes Brahms. 10th Anniversary Season Announced!

Vashon Chamber Music’s 10th Anniversary Season will take place in March and April of 2019. Three Monday evening concerts will feature musical guests from the Seattle and Oregon Symphonies and the return of the Girsky Quartet.
March 4, 7:30pm at Vashon Center for the Arts – Cello Virtuosity III
Efe Baltacigil, Seattle Symphony principal cellist, returns for the third straight year, again with Jessica Choe on piano and this time with special guest Noah Geller, the new Concertmaster of the Seattle Symphony. They will perform a concert of sonata and piano trio masterpieces.
March 25, 7:30pm at Vashon Center for the Arts – Stars of the Oregon Symphony
Sarah Kwak, brilliant Concertmaster of the Oregon Symphony, Vali Phillips, Oregon Symphony violinist/violist and Cary Lewis, Portland-based chamber music pianist extraordinaire will join Rowena Hammill on cello for a program which includes the magnificent Brahms A major piano quartet.
April 22, 7:30pm at Vashon United Methodist Church – A Night in Hungary
The Girsky Quartet closes out the season with a program of Hungarian classics, including works by Bartok and Kodaly. Vashon soprano, Holly Boaz will perform a set of haunting Bartok folk song arrangements.
Tickets will be available at VCA for the first two concerts and at brownpapertickets.com for the third concert after December 1st.

Final Season Concert

The last Seattle Symphony All Stars series concert will be on April 29th at the VCA, 7:30pm. We welcome Seattle Symphony Principal Oboe, Mary Lynch, who will perform a Mozart Quintet for oboe and string quartet and Britten’s Phantasy Quartet for oboe and string trio. The Girsky Quartet will round out the concert with Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 59 no. 2 in e minor. Purchase your tickets online now at vashoncenterforthearts.org or call 206 463-5131.

Join us on March 11 for the next Seattle Symphony All Star concert.
Principal Second Violin Elisa Barston and Associate Principal Cello Meeka Quan Di Lorenzo join forces with pianist Jessica Choe to perform Dvorak’s magical piano trio, the “Dumky”. On the first half, Elisa will play a sparkling Mozart Sonata and Meeka will present Schumann’s romantic “Fantasy Pieces”.

Seattle Symphony Principal Cellist Efe Baltacigil returns with pianist Jessica Choe to present another virtuoso recital on January 14th. The audience was thrilled by Efe’s playing last year so we asked him to return for this all-star season. He’ll be performing a set of variations by Beethoven, Suite Italienne by Igor Stravinsky and the Shostakovich cello sonata. Tickets at Vashon Center for the Arts (vashoncenterforthearts.org) and at the door.

A Schubertiade

Join us for a Schubertiade at a lovely Vashon home this holiday season. The date is Monday December 18th at 7:30pm. Reservations are $75 per person and all proceeds go to help fund the artist fees for our concerts. Email Rowena at hammilldavis@comcast.net to say you’ll come.
Repertoire will include Holly Boaz and Doug Davis recreating their beautiful rendition of Schubert’s “Shepherd on the Rock”.

Marathon 2017

The Girsky Quartet performs the Beethoven opus 18 Marathon on June 11th at three area venues.

No. 1 at 1pm Vashon Havurah Building, 15401 Westside Highway
No. 2 at 2pm Vashon Havurah Building
No. 3 at 3pm Vashon Methodist Church
No. 4 at 4pm Vashon Methodist Church
No. 5 at 5pm Vashon Lutheran Church
No. 6 at 6pm Vashon Lutheran Church

In addition, Holly Boaz will sing Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock at 3:30pm and Gary Koch will sing Beethoven’s “An Die Ferne Geliebte” at 5:30pm.

Admission is by free will donation. The marathon is a benefit event for students to attend the Vashon Island Cello Camp in August and for the new youth choir, the Vashon Choral Boosters.

Please come and support your community youth music programs!
